How to reduce stretchmarks
Stretch marks are formed when an individual’s skin is stretched a lot over a short period of time : More accurately, the skin’s second layer (the dermis), becomes torn due to over stretching. The most common areas for stretch marks to develop are the stomach, breasts, thighs and hips. People of all ages can suffer from stretchmarks and they affect a huge number of the population. Fortunately, our health is not affected by them and only affect us cosmetically. Unfortunately, During the summer months, Stretch marks are more concerning for us because they are on show more as we wear fewer clothes.
Why do stretch marks Develop?
Stretch marks develop when the body grows at a high rate so that the skin doesn’t stretch fast enough to keep up with it. Stretch marks are most frequently associated with pregnancy but are also a normal part of puberty: sudden weight gain and even body building can also result in stretch marks.
Although skin is normally very elastic , when it is stretched, the normal production of collagen is disrupted. collagen helps to ensure that the skin remains firm and supple. There are several external factors which affect the collagen levels produced naturally by the skin such as diet or smoking It is the level of collagen in the skin which affect the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines. They also largely dictate how other blemishes, like surgery scars and acne scars, heal.
What do stretch marks look like?
When they first form, stretch marks appear as reddish purple lines. They are indented and maintain a different texture to the surrounding skin. after a while, the deep colour fades, turning a silvery colour. However they very rarely heal on their own.
Stretch Mark Removal
To remove stretch marks you must first understand how they are caused and how the body can be aided to heal them. Stretch mark treatments range enormously in price and effectiveness, treatments range from the application of cream to having laser treatments to try to remove them for most people, stretch marks are embarrassing and stop people from being confident about their bodies, but this can be overcome or greatly reduced by treatment to remove stretch marks.
Creams and oils are the cheapest variety of stretch marks removal however, only a minor percentage of cream is absorbed into the skin overall, creams are not the best stretch marks treatment. Combining this process with techniques such as skin needling, allows significantly more cream to be absorbed so this method is the easiest method for most individuals.
