May 18th, 2010 by Mike

During the Summer Wasps Season of 2010 Handforth Pest Control will be giving a set Charge of just £32.00 to eradicate a wasps nest or £44.50 for postcodes CH, CW & L
Pest and vermin control in Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire has seen a lively and brisk start (2010) which is somewhat surprising given the relatively cold (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.

Pest controllers were kept busy with the usual city centre rodent infestations during the winter of course, but the relatively cold early part of the year has already provided some ant calls coming in.

The fairly wet summers of the last few years were not to the benefit of the hymenoptera (bees, ants, sawflies and wasps) but 2010 looks like being a busy year for ant work.

Regularly ants make nests under the floors of buildings and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to invade kitchens and food cupboards.

However it is at the mating time when they can be most distressing as they create winged males and queens which then mate on the wing.

The emergence of thousands of these winged ants inside houses can be horrible in the extreme.

A relatively new pest was quite prevalant in the the North West area last season, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).

It was not common for pest operatives in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester to meet these pests until recent times but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in recent years and already this spring has seen reports of these beetles in unprecedented numbers.

They have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears can eat natural fibres and can do great damage to carpets and any fabrics. They can be a difficult and tricky pest to get rid of.

Those involved in pest control have noted that Bed Bugs are continuing their return in the the North West area, often arriving as unwanted guests in the suitcases of home-coming travellers.

Very often the first reaction of unlucky people who realise that they are infested with these revolting,blood-sucking creatures is to get rid of the infested beds and buy new.

This is often an unneccesary error as despite their name bed bugs not only stay in beds and in an infested bedroom will be found everywhere within around five yards of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical wall sockets and the new beds will be rapidly re-infested.

Most people confuse bed bugs with dust mites which cannot be seen by the naked eye. They both need a different form of pest control.

They dine solely on blood which they drink from their sleeping victims. People regularly associate bed bugs with unhygienic conditions but nothing could be less true, they do not require dirt, their food is your blood!

Until the end of April 2010 Stockport & Gatley Pest Control are offering a twenty-five percent discount on their guaranteed ant treatment.

This brand new treatment which is guaranteed for three years, extendable indefinitely in further three year chunks by a low cost re-treatment every 3 years, can be carried out in most properties subject to satisfactory free site survey

For the summer of 2010 Grappenhall Pest Control are guaranteeing a fixed price for getting rid of wasps nests in the Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester area of just thirty two pounds.
