How the federal government is increasing the safety of citizens
July 17th, 2010 by Mike
Today’s federal government is helping improve the security of residents through various initiatives. The federal Office of Management and Budget has developed a federal enterprise architecture initiative to help manage how the government can improve, reduce, and share better. It is through easier processes, clear budgets, and shared resources across lines of business that cross-agency support can help to enhance e-government as well. This e-government approach is a business-focused model that delivers citizen-focused and market-oriented results.

The safety and security of citizens is also of top importance to government leaders. Previously, this has only included sea, air, and space. Today, cyberspace and the web are also being targeted so cybersecurity is now top of mind for most corporations. Public and private internet networks are now part of a vital infrastructure. And the network is a resource and platform that supports governments to provide key services. So it is that cybersecurity is a top concern. And the fix can be found in a proactive and holistic approach that attacks both existing and emerging threats.

It is through a government that uses technology to achieve results that these approaches are fulfilled. Government networks with improved threat detection will help minimize damage and protect valuable information assets. Data center security centered in the cloud will require security measures such as access control and malware prevention, with strict administrative focus. Networks with identity-based elements in place can administer different access policies based on device type and security level. Finally, more secure remote access policies will prevent use of unmanaged devices by enforcing strict cybersecurity measures. All these approaches will support the enforcement of best practices to help establish a culture of federal information security.
