So Now We’re in the Jewelry Business
Sep 29th, 2009 by Mike

I don’t think I should tell anybody that this economy is troublesome and many folks have been having a fairly hard time. I lost my position about 4 months ago when the plant where I was working closed down 2 of their production lines and my brother in law, Barney got his final notice last month when his company announced that they were closing the doors for good.

Both of us spent a fair amount of time and energyattempting to find new jobs but with absolutely no success. However, we were clear on the fact that we still required earnings to pay our bills and support our families so Barney and I decided to go into business for ourselves.

We had no clear idea on what this business would be as my only real skill and experience was in manufacturing washing machines and Barney had worked as a quality controls inspector at a candy plant. However, my young neighbor convinced us that rap music, rappers and that hip hop lifestyle was the hottest growth trend in our area today. Now I must admit that both Barney and I agree that the entire’rapper scene’ is just plain dumb but if it makes cash then who are we to argue.

Somehow we made a decision to go after the jewellery segment of the hip hop market with the plan that we could start off rather small and just offer our goods for sale at flea markets until we could afford to open a regular store. So, our next task was to find a wholesale hip hop jewelry outlet.

We quickly discovered we had a major problem in that we used to be a new business with no track record and no credit report which meant that nobody would sell us any inventory apart from money. They were all extremely respectful to assure us that credit purchases would be possible after we were established but it was all going to be cash on delivery at the beginning. We started scrambling then to find a guaranteed fast cash loan.

Well, we finally got our funding together. Not especially as much as we wanted but enough to at least buy some starter inventory and get the project rolling and we had also found some promising wholesale outlets that we presumed we could deal comfortably with. However, none of these wholesale vendors was in out town so we were going to want to travel which meant making airline and hotel reservations.

Getting the airline reservations was very easy and most of the hotels now subscribe to a hotel SEO sytem that made dealing with them also pretty simple.

Is there a safe Energy Drink?
Sep 29th, 2009 by Mike

The Energy drink Market is fraught with peril! You now have to attempt to navigate a huge assortment of potentially Dangerous products to try and fin even one that works that won’t put you in the hospital. Below you will see just a few of the excerpts from the FREE report Dying For Energy! the Life Threatening Dangers of the Energy Drink Market. But thank goodness there is an alternative, which you will learn about in the Free Report.

Please read the following short excerpts to get a small taste of the secrets the Energy Drink Market doesn’t want you to EVER know about. Energy drinks have become increasingly popular, especially with teens and young adults, and more than 500 new energy drinks have launched worldwide last year. But experts are questioning whether people are harming their health by drinking them.

Most energy drinks are just marketing ploys, according to Mark Kantor, professor of family and consumer sciences and nutrition at the University of Maryland, who specializes in consumer education. “I’m not aware of any scientific data that they do what they say they’re going to do,” He said “They don’t give you more energy.” For the most part, they are nothing much more than a can full of caffeine and a lot of sugar.Taken from: enzyme-health blogspot/2009/02/vitamin-supplement-paradox

The concept of the “energy drink” is a relatively new phenomenon. Brands such as Red Bull, Venom, Rockstar and Monster began appearing in the last few decades and have become extremely popular among young people. But new research by John’s Hopkins presents a stark warning about these so-called “high energy” soft drinks: many of them contain levels of caffeine high enough to endanger your physical health.

While many researchers believe that a small amount of caffeine (such as found in the ubiquitous morning cup of coffee) can actually be good for you, Roland Griffiths, a researcher from Johns Hopkins, points out that most energy drinks contain upwards of 10 mg of caffeine per each ounce. This amounts to 14 times more caffeine than in the average soft drink. It is the equivalent of drinking 7 cups of regular caffeinated coffee within a five-minute period.Taken from: romow.com/health-blog/common-but-dangerous-eye-diseases/

Some trendy new energy drinks are making the rounds these days. But they’re also making some people sick. Attorney Mike Bryant has a revealing report on the reason why in today’s Consumer Pay-off.

Most people don’t seem to know what’s in it, but Red Bull and other energy drinks are powerful stimulants that can have some pretty sobering side effects. And their catchy ads are making Red Bull a hit with teens too!Taken from:telepixtvcgi.warnerbros/dailynews/consumer/12_00/12_07

Tips for Buying Small Cars
Sep 29th, 2009 by Mike

Recent events around the world saw people scrambling to purchase small cars. Gas prices went through the roof and stayed there for longer than anyone cares to remember. Buying any car comes with its fair share of headaches, but small cars have a few issues that are unique to their size and longevity. Here are tips for buying small cars.

1. Wear and Tear- Small cars are more prone to wearing out than a larger car with similar miles and use. The engines are smaller, parts are made of lightweight materials and they just are not built to last in most cases. Be wary of small cars whose mileage is well over 100,000, and ask to see maintenance records if they exist.

2. Safety- When comparing small cars to larger ones there is always a safety issue to consider, especially with older models. Today’s small cars are safer than ever with air bags, side curtains and certain manufacturer modifications such as reinforced roofs and break away nose caps.

3. Too Small- A small car will give you superior gas mileage and the confidence of knowing you reduced your carbon foot print, but that does not mean one will work for you. Do you have more than two children? Is this a back-up or work car only? Are you planning long trips where room for people and luggage is going to be required? All of these are great questions to determine if a small car is right for you and your family.

4. Track Record- What kind of consumer response has the small car you are looking at received. Some small cars were practically junk right off the assembly line while others are the Timex’s of the small car world, they keep a licking and keep on moving! Some of the Nissan varieties fell into this last category and a few small Dodge’s fell into the first know your car.

Small cars have many advantages but you cannot ignore the disadvantages altogether. If a car is not large enough to take the kids to dance or soccer practice, you will eat up your savings arranging alternate transportation.

Enjoy Making Candles
Sep 29th, 2009 by Mike

How to make candles is a fun and easy craft that can be done as a family. It is a fantastic idea for gift baskets and presents, because each candle is a exclusive creation fashioned with care. Supplies for candle making can be found in grocery or craft stores, so getting started is a simple process.

Types of Candles

There are different types of candles that can be created. One type is a solid candle that is formed in a mold.It can be a big block candle in dissimilar shapes, such as a cylinder or rectangle, or it can be short, even down to a votive candle. A variation of these solid candles is to add a scent, which can be anything from vanilla or mint, to cinnamon. Basically any spice can be added in candle making to provide that unique scent for any occasion.

Another option in how to make candles is to create a crayon candle by mixing old crayons in with the paraffin to give it a colorful appearance. This is a great choice for families who have old, broken crayons lying around with which they don’t have any use. Bees wax candles are also a great choice for families to make since they do not require any melting of the wax in the making of them.Bees wax candles just need a tight wrapping of the wax around the wick for this sort of candle making.

A more ancient type of how to make candles is dipping the candles. This type of candle is made two at a time, since the wick is draped to form two equal lengths that are dipped into the wax. This kind of candle making is more of a process and takes time to do, because the candle has to be dipped, allowed to cool for one minute, and then dipped again, repeating the process until the candle is as thick as desired. This sort of candle can also be scented, just as the solid candles are.

Supplies:

There are several basic ingredients that have to be included in the candle maker’s candle making supplies. The main ingredients are wax (of course,) wicks, a way to melt the wax, like a double boiler, and candle molds or containers. It is vitally important to have a double boiler or a wax melter because the paraffin wax can catch on fire at the high temperatures needed to melt it.Other necessary items are a candle making thermometer to keep track of the heat and make sure there isn’t a fire, fragrances for scented candles, dyes for colored candles and putty for the molds.

How to Write a Best Man Speech
Sep 29th, 2009 by Mike

If you are one of the lucky guys who’s best friend has decided to get married and he has made you the best man. A wedding speech is something very personal and is usually rich on stories and has a little humor thrown in as well. This guide will help you say the right things by pushing you in the right direction.

Before you actually get to the tweaking portion where you fine tune things, you need to sit and gather your thoughts. You should gather up the serious ones, the funny ones the ones about the groom, the ones about bride and the groom. You should shy away from anything that will be embarrassing for any of the people or groomsmen gifts involved.

There is no “traditional” format to writing this speech. Things to include should be how you got to know them, why they may have chosen you for the best man, you can interject some funny thoughts but remember, funny does not mean embarrassing. You want a subtle giggle and not a nervous laugh regarding bridesmaid gifts. You don’t want him wondering how far you are going to go into depth about some things that only you know and the bride to be doesn’t need to know.

Also, when it comes time to deliver the toast and the speech, it would be best advised to do so long before the alcohol starts to affect what you are saying and thinking. It is their day and a little too much bubbly can loosen lips and cause all sorts of things.

Remember the rules of speaking that you learned in school. You need a starting point, a middle section, and an end. When you are delivering it a good idea to as a little humor to make it interesting and enjoyable, and there needs to be a definite ending to the whole thing so that it doesn’t seem to drone on endlessly and become boring for you and the guests.

The other important thing to remember is that no matter how far off course or off topic you may get during the course of the speech, when you get to the ending or closing remarks, get back to the point at hand and get back to being serious about it. No one wants to think that the marriage or wedding accessories that they are embarking on is a joke.

So making a more traditional toast and well wishes at the end of the speech will tie the whole thing together, make you look like the right choice was made and will make it a memorable portion of the event, instead of a part that people want to try and forget.

Remember, you are the best man and not the groom so enhance the limelight for him and don’t try to steal it.

Beneficial Pointers For Paying for A Trailer
Sep 29th, 2009 by Mike

Shopping for a trailer can be one of the best investments you can make but you need to be certain that you are obtaining a quality one which will last more than a few years. The first two things that most people are interested in when purchasing a trailer is the amount of space and the supported weight. You will also need to make sure that your vehicle can handle the total towing weight so that you won’t have any problems on the road later.

To be sure that you’re getting the best out of your investment, you want to pick a trailer with bigger wheels owing to the fact that they produce less heat and friction on the tyres which in turn enable the bearings to last longer. Before making a final decision to purchase the tandem axle trailerof your choice, you need to take a look at the trailer’s certification because it contains all the important specifications and requirements which will clearly show you if a trailer is acceptable quality. Although almost all trailers comes with a standard one-year warranty, there’s nothing stopping you from picking up an extend the warranty if you intend to keep your trailer for a few more years.

Maintenance and regular servicing are excessively important after you have purchased your trailer. Most of the major repair costs can be avoided if you service your trailer regularly or when you have reached a certain number of miles. It is a known fact that serviceable parts such as the tires, brakes, hubs, wheels and trailer axle parts need to be replaced when they are no longer usable so to ensure that you won’t have any money problem for replacing them, try saving some money every month for that purpose.

You will also want to make sure that the safety chains of your single axle trailer are securely attached before towing it on the road. Also make sure that the tyres have the proper PSI and the lights are functioning correctly. To lower the chances of having your trailer or your vehicle damaged while on the road, you want to drive in such a way that the ride is smooth where you will accelerate and decelerate gradually.

Welcome to UK Links Directory
Sep 28th, 2009 by Mike

Would you like better rankings and traffic? Then, quite simply, you need to submit your site to a Link Directory. Welcome to UK Link Directory (ULD).  An English language, 100% SEO family friendly and an fully human maintained link directory for every webmaster on the WWW with a quality web site.  Submit a quality web site now and real human editors (yes really) will review it for inclusion in to the ULD.

Submit your family friendly link for free at the UK Link Directory and real people will review your submission. The people at UK Link Directory give up several hours a day to give website owners a free link, so please try and add your website link in the right category or it may get rejected!  But firstly, what is a web directory or link directory?  Quite simply this is a directory on the World Wide Web that specializes in linking to other web sites and also in categorising those links.  In turn the submitting web site gains much needed traffic and also a valuable back link.

A link directory is not a search engine and does not display lists of web pages based on keyword, but instead, lists web sites ordered by category or subcategory. This categorisation is usually based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are sometimes restricted by inclusion in only a few categories. Such Web directories often permit web site owners to directly submit their site for inclusion, this web directory has human editors that review web submissions for fitness.

Some of the directories are very general in scope and display websites across a wide range of categories, regions and languages. But there are also some niche directories which focus on restricted regions, single languages, or specialist sectors. One type of niche directory with the largest number of UK sites in existence, is the well know UK Link Directory.  Due to its extensive categorization and large number of listings and its free availability for use by other directories and search engines this directory has become very popular.

UK Link directory has various features for your listing.  Due to the massive number of requests to be included in the directory they have had to recently only allow sites that offer a reciprocal link.  This is a link back to the link directory and must be added somewhere on the submitted site in order to get listed in the directory.  But the good news is, this is completely free and you will be getting a high power link page ranked link that will only get better with time.  They also offer a paid submission where a cheap one yearly fee is charged for reviewing and listing the submitted link.  Finally, the big daddy of links is the featured listing.  This link is given a premium position in a category (or multiple categories) and will also appear on the homepage.

As mentioned, UK Link Directory is a human-edited directory and is created and maintained by editors who add links based on the policies particular to that directory.  Human-edited directories are often targeted by SEO’s as a prime source for backlinks on the basis that links from a reputable source will improve rankings in the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. Some directories may prevent search engines from rating a displayed link by using redirects, nofollow attributes, or other techniques, but not at UK Link Directory. Many human-edited directories, including the Open Directory Project and World Wide Web Virtual Library, are edited by volunteers, who are often experts in particular categories. These directories are sometimes criticized due to long delays in approving submissions, or for rigid organizational structures and disputes among volunteer editors.  Again, this is not the case with the ULD.

The great thing is that this link directory won’t spam you and many sites are approved within 24 hours.   Submit your site today to UK Link Directory.  It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s fast, and it’s also SEO Friendly and a true authority site.

Mortgage Protection Insurance: The Best Decision You’ve Ever Made!
Sep 28th, 2009 by Mike

Everybody knows that purchasing a house is likely going to be the biggest investment of their lifetime. The saying is “You Buy A House, You Make It A Home.” You should feel safer in your homed than you do anywhere else in the world. There’s nothing quite so comforting as know that you have an adequate amount of mortgage protection insurance in the event of your untimely death.

When you buy a house it means that you’ve decided to make a long-term financial commitment. Unfortunately, you never know what the future holds. One thing’s for sure though. If you’ll go one step further and purchase mortgage insurance this will help alleviate the stress often caused by a weak financial plan. To say it plainly, if you don’t have some type of mortgage life insurance and you die unexpectedly there’s a good chance that your spouse and children will be forced to sell the house and move into an apartment.

Believe me, I know it’s tempting to skip the insurance in an attempt to save money. However, perhaps it’s time to do a bit of research. With the economy in the shape it’s in nowadays there’s a very good chance that you can get a better deal on mortgage life insurance that you might have imagined.

Think about it. You’re committed to taking care of your family while you’re alive, but what happens if something happens to you? Wouldn’t you feel more at ease with a mortgage protection insurance policy as part of your overall financial portfolio?

Honestly, finding the right mortgage life insurance policy is not difficult. If you do your research on the internet it’s really not even all that time-consuming. Trust me, the peace of mind you’ll get from it simply cannot be measured in dollars and cents. Actually, it will probably turn out to be the best decision you’ve ever made in your life.

History of the IQ test
Sep 28th, 2009 by Mike

Introduction

The prominent French psychologist, Alfred Binet, first developed the IQ test in response to France becoming a country with education for all children. Before, the only school children were the offspring of the well-to-do. France was now faced with the challenge of educating the masses, and they needed a way to separate those who needed special help from those who were average, and from those who were advanced. At the request of the French government, Binet and a colleague, Theodore Simon, took on the task of developing a test to measure the intelligence and potential of each child. Binet and Simon published their first test in 1905. Revisions to this test followed in 1908 and 1911.

The Early Standards

Through observations made during these early tests, they created the concept of mental age, which was:

    * If a 10-year-old child succeeded on the items appropriate for 10-year-olds but could not pass the questions appropriate for 11-year-olds, that child was said to have a mental age of 10.
    * Mental age did not necessarily correspond with chronological age. For example, if a 6-year-old child succeeded on the items intended for 9-year-olds, then that child was said to have a mental age of 9.

IQ Testing in USA

Henry Goddard, director of a New Jersey school for children with mental retardation, first brought the concept of IQ testing to the United States for use in testing people for mental retardation, also in the early 1900s. A Stanford psychologist, Lewis Terman, revised the test to expand its usability by adding questions appropriate for adults, and establishing new standards for average performance at each age. Terman’s first standardized test, published in 1916, was called the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale. Terman also changed the concept of a mental age into a standardized IQ score, which is the approach still used today.

IQ Tests Today

The history of IQ testing continues to the modern day, where the most widely used modern tests of intelligence are the Stanford-Binet, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), and the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (Kaufman-ABC). Each of these tests have a series of 10 or more subtests or sections of the main test in which all of the items are similar. Examples of subtests include vocabulary (“Define gregarious”), similarities, repeating digit strings of increasing length from memory, information processing, object assembly (putting together puzzles), mazes (tracing a path through a maze), and simple math problems.

Selling Your Vehicle
Sep 28th, 2009 by Mike

Unless you are considering keeping your old car and giving it to someone else, you will eventually need to sell it. There’s many ways to sell your car, but first let’s consider the preparation of your vehicle prior to advertising or trading.

Presentation is the key factor

The first thing one should consider when selling an old vehicle is how you can sell it for more money. The technique, which most people seem to overlook, is to simply make it look absolutely stunning!

This does not mean just washing and vacuuming it, although that’s a very good start. It is the overall preparation and detailing that counts. This is a well-known secret of most used car dealers.

You would be surprised to see the condition of some of the vehicles they purchase, but after a few hours in the detailing shop you wouldn’t think it was the same car! The best advice to anyone selling his or her car, is to have a professional car detail carried out. This will cost you around the $200 mark and it will be money well invested.

It will, in effect, save you hours of hard work trying to do it yourself with nowhere near the same result. This alone will add hundreds of dollars to your vehicle, particularly when selling online.

I know of people who have had their vehicle detailed and fallen back in love with their car deciding not to go ahead with the sale.

Once the detailing has been carried out you should make sure any minor flaws are fixed. It is also important that you have the service books and any relative mechanical history at the ready, as this is now becoming a major factor when buying or selling a used car. If a service is due or near due, make sure you have it done prior to selling. This will give a prospective customer an appreciation of how well you have kept your vehicle.

What is your car going to sell for?

Before you start selling your vehicle, either privately or to a dealer, you must know its market value. There is nothing worse than advertising your vehicle with a highly inflated price.

One way to find out the approximate value of your vehicle is by studying the used car section of your local newspapers, which will give you a reasonable guideline. Another way is to look in dealership yards to see what price similar vehicles are being sold for, but you must remember these vehicles have margins built into them to cover the dealership’s operating costs and over-stock.

Alternatively, the internet can provide a wealth of information on vehicle pricing. This is only web-based information and is generalised, so it does not give you accurate pricing on your own vehicle because of the specific condition and accessories fitted.

This information is only to assist you in making a qualified and rational decision when buying or selling your vehicle. Remember, these sites are to be used only as a guideline, they are not entirely accurate as they do not take into consideration the individual buying or selling parameters within the different states.

There are always variations to the rules about pricing, so you should follow your intuition when setting a price and be sure to leave room for negotiating in your asking price. Your starting price should be higher than the price for which you really want to sell your vehicle.
